Узкий круг моих ближайших заинтересованных знакомых не пострадает в любом случае. Той полусотне острозубов, которые покамест поинтересовались первыми двумя главами, можно хоть персональным списком рассылки отправлять.
I'm a great fan of the "Night's Dawn" series, considering it a virtually unique epic space opera that is so much realistic and appealing.
That's why I'm so sorry of the poor quality of its Russian translation that has been published by AST publishing house in 2002-2005 (http://www.ast.ru/author/126931/, the site is in Russian). The translators were obviously working in big haste, producing a hard to read unedited translation with a lot of incorrectly understood sentences and specific terms nearly in each paragraph. Here is an example of typical reader's complaints, far from being a single one: http://zhurnal.lib.ru/p/palxcun_s/dontshoottranslator.shtml (also in Russian).
I believe I could do better. I'm a SF writer myself, although not really that great as you, but with a 5 years of experience and a dozen of magazine publications nevertheless. My primary goal is to provide the Russian readers with the "Night's Dawn" translation that it deserves.
So my question is: would you permit me to create a new Russian translation of the "Night's Dawn" series - a completely new one, not based on the existing books published by AST?
My sample translation of the first two chapters could be found at http://zhurnal.lib.ru/n/nowoselow_a_w/index_10.shtml
I'm not bound by any publishing contract on it so far, and would not like to be until I have the fully completed work at hand. I don't have any money claims on the forthcoming text and could officially pass all property rights to you, except the translation authorship, if you'd wish so.
Actually, I'd prefer to release it into Internet for free - it won't do you any more harm, because the published Russian paper books are out-of-stock long ago, the texts had been OCRed by fans and uploaded to dozens of book sites, so that opened can of worms can't be put back again - but perhaps asking you that would be too much, so I don't insist on it.
Thank you in advance,
with great respect,
